Medical Exams for Express Entry Applicants
Hello World! Today, we would like to share information on medical examinations for Express Entry applicants. (What is Express Entry?)
On October 1, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) made changes to the Immigration Medical Exam (IME) requirement for Express Entry applicants, allowing them to submit applications without an upfront medical exam.
What is an Immigration Medical Exam?
In order to obtain Canadian Permanent Resident (PR) or some temporary resident status, applicants must undergo an IME as part of the application process.
This is to ensure that the applicants are not a risk to public health or safety in Canada and can only be completed at a clinic or hospital designated by IRCC.
There are two types of IMEs. One is the upfront medical exam, which is taken before receiving a request from IRCC, and the other is taken after receiving a request.
IME for Express Entry Applicants
For Express Entry applicants who have already completed an IME:
If you have already completed an IME as part of a previous application (Ex. Work Permit or Study Permit) and are currently living in Canada, you can include it in your PR application without completing another IME.
For Express Entry applicants who have never completed an IME:
As of October 1, 2023, it is no longer required to undergo an upfront medical exam before submitting a PR application through Express Entry.
You can upload a blank document in the upload field when submitting your PR application, and IRCC will send you further instructions on when to get an IME.
