Impact of IRCC Strike
Hello. As many of you know, the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) declared a general strike beginning April 19, 2023.
As a result, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) employees are also on strike and immigration-related services are expected to be disrupted. If you are applying or intend to apply for travel or immigration to Canada, please read the following information carefully.
Services to Continue During Strike
Some IRCC services remain available during the event of a strike. You can still:
- apply online

The following services offered by non-governmental organizations are still available:
- settlement services from our partner organizations
- health care through the Interim Federal Health Program
- visa application centers outside of Canada
Services Partially or Fully Disrupted
Most IRCC services are impacted. You should expect some delays with the following:
- Access to Information Act requests – Service delay
- Citizenship events – Reschedule except for emergency
- Consular citizenship and passport services – Service delay
- Contacting IRCC – Service delay and only via IRCC web form
- Extending your stay in Canada – Online application available
- Grants and contributions services – Service delay
- Immigration-related appointments – In Canada: reschedule or cancel / Outside Canada: proceed as scheduled unless advised
- Passport services – Service delay except for emergency
