IRCC Strike is Over Now

Hello World! Today we would like to share the latest update on the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) strike. You can check our previous article here.

After beginning a strike on April 19, the Government of Canada, and the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) have reached a tentative agreement. As a result, IRCC employees have now reported back to work as of May 1, 2023.

Processing delays may still be expected

IRCC services resumed on May 1, 2023, as IRCC employees returned to work.

There may still be some impacts on the following services over the next few days and weeks as services return to full capacity.

  • Access to Information Act requests
  • *Biometrics collection in Canada
  • *Citizenship events
  • Consular citizenship and passport services
  • Contacting IRCC
  • Extending your stay in Canada
  • Grants and contributions services
  • *Immigration-related appointments
  • Passport services
  • Processing applications

Biometrics collection in Canada

During the strike, a 60-day extension was given to those who were unable to submit biometrics within a 30-day. This measure was implemented in response to the service delays and closure of biometric collection offices in Canada due to the strike and is anticipated to continue for a while until services return to full capacity.

Citizenship events & Immigration-related appointments:

Delays may be expected in processing citizenship events and immigration-related in-person appointments due to more than a week of backlog.

The IRCC trike has finally ended. Although the impacts of the strike are expected to continue for some time until they catch up on more than one week of bag logs, it is good news that services have resumed.

Please feel free to contact us here if you have any concerns about your application caused by the impact of this IRCC strike.
