【Mar 2022】Update on Travel Restrictions

Hello World! Today we would like to share updates on travel restrictions announced by the Government of Canada on February 15, 2022. Please also check our previous article on travel restrictions from here.

The following rules became effective as of February 28, 2022.

1. Easing Arrival Test for Vaccinated Travellers

Travellers arriving in Canada from any country, who qualify as fully vaccinated, are only required arrival testing if they are randomly selected. Travellers selected do not need to quarantine while awaiting their test results.

  • Children under 12 years old travelling with fully vaccinated adults are exempt from quarantine. They do not need to wait 14 days before attending school, camp or daycare.
  • Unvaccinated travellers are required to test on arrival, on Day 8 and quarantine for 14 days. Effective January 15, 2022, unvaccinated foreign nationals are not permitted to enter Canada unless they meet one of the few exemptions (see related article).

To be considered fully vaccinated, you must:

  • have received the full series of an accepted COVID-19 vaccine
  • have received your last dose at least 14 days before you enter Canada
  • upload your proof of vaccination in ArriveCAN

Accepted vaccines are following 7 types: AstraZeneca/ Bharat Biotech/ Janssen (Johnson & Johnson)/ Moderna/ Pfizer-BioNTech/ Sinopharm BIBP/ Sinovac

2. Accepting Rapid Antigen Test for Entry

Travellers now have the following two options to meet pre-entry requirements for proof of a COVID-19 test result.

  • Rapid Antigen Test Result: taken the day prior to their scheduled flight or arrival at the land border or marine port of entry; or
  • Molecular Test Result: taken no more than 72 hours before their scheduled flight or arrival at the land border or marine port of entry.

Note: Taking a rapid antigen test at home is not sufficient. It must be authorized by the country in which it was purchased and must be administered by a laboratory, healthcare entity or telehealth service.

3. Adjusting Travel Health Notice

The Government of Canada announced to adjust its Travel Health Notice from a Level 3 to a Level 2. This means that the Government no longer recommend avoiding travel for non-essential purposes.
