Recent Immigration News
Hello World! It’s July and Vancouver is having sunny and warm beautiful days. Today, we would like to share some of the recent immigration news that you may find interesting.
1. Work Permit Holders Can Study Longer
On June 27, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced a special measure to temporarily remove the limit on the length of time Work Permit holders may study without a Study Permit. This measure is in effect for three years from June 27, 2023.
This measure helps foreign workers to have the opportunity to seek additional training and education that can help them in their careers.
Prior to this change, foreign workers could study while working, but only in programs of 6 months or less. For longer programs, they had to apply for a separate study permit.
This temporary measure applies to those:
- who hold a valid Work Permit as of June 7, 2023, or
- who have applied to renew a Work Permit on or before June 7, 2023
* If a foreign worker wishes to study longer than the duration of the Work Permit, they still need to apply for a Study Permit.
