Update on Express Entry Point System

Hello World! Following up on our previous article, today we would like to share the latest update on the changes to the Express Entry points system.

As of March 25, 2025, candidates in the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) category under the Express Entry system no longer receive additional points for having a job offer supported by a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).

Details of the Change

Prior to March 25, 2025, candidates with a LMIA could receive points for a job offer as part of the Express Entry system.

However, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced the removal of this point system for the CEC category. As a result, current and future CEC candidates in the Express Entry pool no longer receive points based on the following job offers:

  • Senior Management Occupations (NOC 00): 200 points
  • Other Skilled Occupations (NOC 0, 1, 2, 3): 50 points

Points for candidates with Job Offers are automatically deleted, but it may take several days for the change to take effect.

Impact on Permanent Resident Applicants

This change affects candidates applying for permanent residence under the CEC program. If you have an Invitation to Apply (ITA), that has not expired or been declined, this change will not affect your application.

Job offer points will continue to be considered for the following programs, so make sure to update the job offer details accurately in your Express Entry profile:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program
  • A portion of the Provincial Nominee Program

Starting March 25, 2025, the removal of job offer points in the CEC category is expected to lead to a lower Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) cutoff for ITA issuance in this category. You can review past CRS score trends here.
