Testimonial – H.F. Intra-company Transferee Work Permit
Hello, world! At our firm, we support many Japanese corporations with their Canadian operations. Today, we would like to share a testimonial from a client who successfully obtained an Intra-company Transferee (ICT) Work Permit。
“At the time, our company was proceeding with an acquisition in Canada. My role required me to obtain a Work Permit and arrive on-site as soon as the business transfer was finalized. While I was anxious about whether the relocation would stay on schedule, a former colleague who had worked in Canada highly recommended Satoko-san, and I decided to reach out to her for support.
In a word, her coordination, support, attention to detail, schedule management, and speed were “PERFECT!”. Despite the tight timeline of just two months from the initial request, she had all the necessary preparations for the Work Permit ready by the week following the completion of our corporate registration.
I vividly remember waiting at the airport immigration office with my wife, feeling a strange sense of calm. Furthermore, despite arriving late at night on a holiday, Satoko-san remained on standby to handle any unexpected issues over the phone. I am truly grateful. As we continue to dispatch expatriates from our company to Canada, I will undoubtedly be asking Satoko-san for her expertise again.” by H.F.

I have had a long-standing relationship with Mr. H.F.’s parent company since my previous role. After we began this project, we even discovered that a client from a different Japanese company was a classmate of his—a reminder of how interconnected our community is. While we do very little marketing on social media, we are fortunate that, over the past five years, the majority of our corporate clients have come to us through referrals and word-of-mouth.
Although the client was extremely busy with the timing of their Canadian market entry, their precise cooperation in providing documents allowed us to complete the filing in time for their start date. It is a great honor to continue supporting their new expatriates as they arrive. I am also thrilled to hear that their business in Canada is thriving.
When supporting corporate clients, I truly feel the weight of responsibility in assisting with vital personnel transfers and the first steps of business expansion. The role of an immigration consultant is not just about preparing paperwork; it is about strategically crafting a submission that demonstrates the benefit the applicant brings to Canada to maximize approval rates. Particularly with new business ventures, I often find myself learning a great deal about different industries and markets, which makes this work incredibly rewarding.
About Intra-Company Transferee (ICT) Work Permits
When a Canadian employer hires a foreign worker, they are typically required to undergo a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). However, ICT Work Permits are exempt from the LMIA process. Instead, the employer must submit an “Offer of Employment” via the Employer Portal in advance.
The ICT category is generally divided into two types:
- Senior Managers
- Specialized Knowledge Workers

[April 2026 Update] Work Permit Extension Guidelines
On April 27, 2026, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) clarified the guidelines regarding continued authorization to work while a Work Permit extension is pending.
Under these updates, applicants who meet specific criteria are authorized to continue working for 365 days from the date of application and will receive a letter to that effect. The eligibility criteria are as follows↓
- Applied to renew their work permit under section R201 before the initial work permit expired
- Remained in Canada (meaning they have not physically left)
- Continued to comply with the conditions set out on the expired work permit (such as occupation and employer) while awaiting the decision
