Update for TR to PR Pathway Applicants!

Hello World! Today we would like to talk about an update on the TR to PR (“Temporary Resident to Permanent Resident”) Pathway launched in 2021. (You can check our previous article here.)

Please be sure to read it if you applied to this program last year!

Update on the Current Application Status

In May 2021, the Government of Canada opened a new immigration program, TR to PR Pathway for workers and international graduates to obtain Permanent Residency.

While new applications for this program were closed as of November 2021, the processing of received applications is ongoing.

New Rules Taking Effect this Summer

On April 22, 2022, the Government of Canada announced new rules for those who applied for Permanent Residence through the TR to PR Pathway last year.

The following rules will be applied for this summer.

  • Applicants will no longer be required to remain in Canada while their application is being processed.
  • Applicants who apply for an Open Work Permit while waiting for their Permanent Residence application to be finalized will be able to get Work Permits valid until the end of 2024. This eliminates the need to apply for an extension while their Permanent Residence applications are being processed.
  • Immediate family members who are outside of Canada and who were included in a principal applicant’s Permanent Residence application will be eligible for their own Open Work Permit.
