Work Permit at a Port of Entry

Hello world. It’s starting to get cold here in Vancouver. The change in weather tells us that fall is around the corner. Today we would like to share the good news on applying a Work Permit at a port of entry (“POE”).  

Applying for a Work Permit at a POE

Most visitors to Canada were not able to apply for a Work Permit at a POE while COVID-19 travel restrictions were in place. However, as of September 21, 2021, you can now apply for a Work Permit when you enter Canada if you’re eligible.

To apply at a POE, you must meet all of the following:

  • be eligible for an electronic travel authorization (eTA) or to travel without a Temporary Resident Visa (Visa)→ find out if you need a Visa
  • have all the required documents depending on the type of Work Permit you’re applying for
  • be eligible to enter Canada while COVID-19 travel restrictions are in place(*1)

(*1)To enter Canada while COVID-19 travel restrictions are in place, you must:

  • have received the full series of an accepted vaccine or a combination of accepted vaccines at least 14 days prior to entering Canada
  • have a pre-entry PCR test result 
  • be asymptomatic
  • submit your information via ArriveCAN including proof of vaccination in English or French
  • take a PCR test on arrival, if selected
