Good News for Tourism Industry in AB!

Hello World! Today, we would like to provide information about the nominee program announced by the Province of Alberta (AB).

The AB government announced new immigration stream for the tourism and hospitality industry in AB starting from March 1, 2024.

What is Tourism and Hospitality Stream?

Tourism and Hospitality Stream is an immigration program for foreign workers in the tourism and hospitality industry in AB.

Eligible Occupations

  • Program leaders and instructors in recreation, sport, and fitness
  • Restaurant and food services managers
  • Accommodation service managers
  • Food service supervisors
  • Chefs
  • Cooks
  • Maîtres d’hôtel and hosts/hostesses
  • Bartenders
  • Hotel front desk clerks
  • Tour and travel guides
  • Outdoor sport and recreational guides
  • Food and beverage servers
  • Food counter attendants, kitchen helpers and related support occupations
  • Support occupations in accommodation, travel, and facilities set-up services
  • Light duty cleaners
  • Specialized cleaners
  • Janitors, caretakers, and heavy-duty cleaners
  • Dry cleaning, laundry, and related occupations

Application Requirements

To be eligible, you must:

  • be living and working in AB in an eligible occupation.
  • have a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) based Work Permit.
  • have a full-time (30 hours per week minimum) job offer for at least one year (365 days) and have been employed for a minimum of 6 consecutive months (or minimum of 780 hours) at the time of application. 
  • meet the language requirement of CLB4 or higher. 
  • have a minimum of high school education equivalent to Canadian standards. 

In addition, your employment and job offer must be with an approved tourism and hospitality industry. Your employer must meet the following requirements.

  • Be in an industry that is on the Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) list or exempt.
  • Be a member of an eligible sector association.
