Easing of Border Measures

On July 19, 2021, the Government of Canada announced the easing of border restrictions, allowing entry to fully vaccinated travellers from any country who meet specific entry requirements, starting September 7, 2021.

If you plan to travel to Canada, please check the following carefully.

Opening Border to Fully Vaccinated Americans

As a first step of opening border for fully vaccinated travellers from any country, starting August 9, 2021, Canada began allowing entry to American citizens and permanent residents, who are currently residing in the United States, and have been fully vaccinated at least 14 days prior to entering Canada.

To be considered fully vaccinated, you must:

  • have received the full series of an accepted COVID-19 vaccine or a combination of accepted vaccines
  • have received your last dose at least 14 days prior to entering Canada
  • upload your proof of vaccination in ArriveCAN

Accepted vaccines:

  • Pfizer-BioNTech
  • Moderna
  • AstraZeneca /COVISHIELD
  • Janssen (Johnson & Johnson)

Entry Requirements for Vaccinated Travellers

* As of August 9, 2021, travellers are no longer required to book a 3-night hotel stopover when entering Canada.

Subject to limited exceptions, all fully vaccinated travellers must follow the entry requirements:

  • Pre-entry PCR testing (*1)
  • Prepare quarantine plan – You can assess your plan if it’s suitable or not from here.
  • Submit your information in ArriveCAN before arrival

If you meet all the requirements at the border based on the information presented at the time of entry into Canada, you will not have to quarantine.

(*1) Fully vaccinated travellers do not need a post-arrival test unless they have been randomly selected to complete the test.

Re-opening 5 Additional Airports

To support the new measures, international flights are permitted to land at the following 5 additional airports, effective August 9, 2021:

  • Halifax Stanfield International Airport;
  • Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport;
  • Ottawa Macdonald–Cartier International Airport;
  • Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport; and
  • Edmonton International Airport.

4 major airports in Canada(Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Montreal)already accept arriving international flights.
