Today, we would like to share important notice for Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) based Work Permit applicants and employers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p><span data-color=\"#fffd6b\" class=\"vk_highlighter\" style=\"background: linear-gradient(transparent 60%,rgba(255, 253, 107, 0.7) 0);\">In our <a href=\"https:\/\/onepacificimmigration.com\/en-CA\/2024\/08\/15\/new-measures-to-lmia-work-permit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>previous article<\/strong><\/a>, we mentioned the possibility of implementing refusal to process under the Low-Wage stream, and the Government of Canada announced significant changes to LMIA applications in this stream on August 26, 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"2-\u6e21\u822a\u524d\u691c\u67fb-\u8fc5\u901f\u6297\u539f\u691c\u67fb\u3082\u8a31\u53ef\">What is LMIA?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>LMIA is a document that an employer in Canada&nbsp;may&nbsp;need to get before hiring a foreign worker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A positive LMIA will show that there is a need for a foreign worker to fill the job. It will also show that no Canadian worker or permanent resident is available to do the job. Employers also need to prove that hiring a foreign worker will not negatively affect the Canadian labour market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/employment-social-development\/services\/foreign-workers.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a> to see the types of LMIA streams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"2-\u6e21\u822a\u524d\u691c\u67fb-\u8fc5\u901f\u6297\u539f\u691c\u67fb\u3082\u8a31\u53ef\">Key Changes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Effective September 26, 2024, the following changes will be implemented for LMIA applications in the Low-Wage stream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span data-color=\"#fffd6b\" class=\"vk_highlighter\" style=\"background: linear-gradient(transparent 60%,rgba(255, 253, 107, 0.7) 0);\"><strong>LMIA Refusals in High Unemployment Areas: <\/strong><\/span>LMIA applications for the Low-Wage stream will no longer be accepted in metropolitan areas with an unemployment rate of 6% or higher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Exceptions: Occupations in food security sectors (primary agriculture, food processing and fish processing), construction and healthcare<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span data-color=\"#fffd6b\" class=\"vk_highlighter\" style=\"background: linear-gradient(transparent 60%,rgba(255, 253, 107, 0.7) 0);\"><strong>10% Cap on Foreign Workers:<\/strong><\/span> Employers will now be restricted from hiring more than 10% of their total workforce with foreign workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Exceptions: Occupations in food security sectors (primary agriculture, food processing and fish processing), construction and healthcare<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span data-color=\"#fffd6b\" class=\"vk_highlighter\" style=\"background: linear-gradient(transparent 60%,rgba(255, 253, 107, 0.7) 0);\"><strong>Reduced Employment Duration: <\/strong><\/span>The maximum duration of employment for workers hired through the Low-Wage stream will be reduced to one year from the previous two-year limit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information on this announcement, please check the link below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/employment-social-development\/news\/2024\/08\/minister-boissonnault-reducing-the-number-of-temporary-foreign-workers-in-canada.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/employment-social-development\/news\/2024\/08\/minister-boissonnault-reducing-the-number-of-temporary-foreign-workers-in-canada.html<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"2-\u6e21\u822a\u524d\u691c\u67fb-\u8fc5\u901f\u6297\u539f\u691c\u67fb\u3082\u8a31\u53ef\">Anticipated Further Adjustments<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Government of Canada will continue to monitor labour market conditions and make further adjustments to the program as necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Within the next 90 days, the government will also review the High-Wage stream and other LMIAs and may change to the application process and rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\uff1d\uff1d\uff1d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Government of Canada expects that this action will reduce employer\u2019s reliance on the LMIA and protect employment opportunities for Canadian workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have any questions or concerns about your LMIA\/Work Permit application, please feel free to contact us&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/onepacificimmigration.com\/en-CA\/business\/business_form\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>from here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-light-green-cyan-color\">&#8220;You are one step closer to Canada!&#8221;<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/onepacificimmigration.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/transit-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"transit_20240905\" class=\"wp-image-9264\" srcset=\"https:\/\/onepacificimmigration.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/transit-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/onepacificimmigration.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/transit-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/onepacificimmigration.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/transit-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/onepacificimmigration.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/transit-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/onepacificimmigration.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/transit.jpg 2016w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello World!
